Quantaray 2X teleconverter ?

I can get new 2X Quantaray teleconverter made for Maxxum system for $65
Does anyone use it? It should be similar to Sigma 2X for Maxxum.

Re: Quantaray 2X teleconverter ?

Got one. I have used and still use it for close-ups. Kinda of fun with the 50F/1.7, and 35-70F/4. It's not a great tele-converter for extending a long telephoto, but it works. I took a few shots with it on a Sigma 170-500, and probably a Bigma at one time. Again it was better at near minimum focus than on distant subjects.

Biggest issue is that it doesn't do much for image quality on subjects further than minimum focus distance, exaggerates CA, and eats up two stops.

I found that the image quality took too huge a nose dive and CA was off the charts. Two days of use and I returned it.

Also, be sure to test it on your camera. My understanding is that there are some older ones with too few pins to communicate fully with the Sony's.

its a horrible teleconverter. i bought it for around 30 bucks and still fell ripped off. but on the flip side, i can always knock out the elements and use it as a extension tube.

btw i think ssm does not work with the teleconverter. my 24-70z just keeps hunting when i try to focus.

Re: Quantaray 2X teleconverter ?

I find TCs to be a mixed bag. They do work, but IQ degrades.

What's nice about the Quantaray 2x that I have is that it changes the reported aperture.

With the 2x, my tele lenses that are f5.6 at the end of the range become f11 which means AF doesn't work and you need bright light and higher ISO. Even so, I think it's probably better than resizing without.

Manually focusing seems to be a problem for me, as I have fewer successes than with AF.
