E-P1 with Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f0.95. Stills from video.
Apr 12, 2010

Here is some video stills from a video taken on a friend's birthday party with Olympus E-P1 with a c-mount lens Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f0.95. Edited in Adobe Premiere with Magic Bullet plugin. Full res stills (1280x720):

And I have a question for you: how do you manage to export HD video from Adobe Premiere with maximum quality? I tried to use x264 codec but even with high bitrate (30 mbps) there are many compression artifacts.

I use Main Concept H.264 codec (I think it ships with Premiere) and encode in level 4.1 with average bitrate of 5 and maximum of 8 Mbps. I have yet to see a compression artifact, the quality is amazing and filesize is just right.

Try the Main Concept codec on appropriate level (4.1 I think is the right one).

They look good so far. Is there a way to see the whole video?

What´s that noise?

Nice. Lovely atmosphere. Could you tell me which adapter ring you use. I have a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f1.4 which is gathering dust in a closet and am quite anxious to use it.

How much does that lens usually run for? Those photos look fantastic for frame grabs.

Can you post the video as well?

095 stills.

normally I just put lenses on the right adapter and see what happens, but occasionally, such as last weekend, the urge to compare becomes overwhelming.

Error margins abound; faulty focus setting, curvature of field (pronounced in the case of the 095), focus shift with stopping down, psychological factors (such as expecting Leitz apochromatic optics to beat all others), sequence of observation etc. So , do not take my highly unscientific word for it, but try it out.

My impression is that in murky conditions, the in-body stabilized Ep1+ Schneider 50 (or 25) 095 delivers when regular 4\3 glass does not.

With ample light, however, the central image of 095 does not seem to match Leitz macro elmarit 60mm in contrast or brilliance (or, at the same scale, match the Leitz apo-macro elmarit 100mm) until stopped down a little more than the Leitzs. The Schneider is still an excellent lens, but the humble Olympus kitzoom is also surprisingly good if you only require a slow lens.

Does the lens cover 100% of the sensor? Or do you have to crop? Are those pictures cropped?

Thanks, 4.1 makes picture a lot better!

Here is a link for a short version of the video (5min 10s).
http://www.vimeo.com/10874059

I have a lens like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/M25-Schneider-Xenon-0-95-50mm-14285074-c-mount_W0QQitemZ160421894478QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFilm_Cameras?hash=item2559e3d94e

I have recently got this lens and I must say this is one of the best lens I ever used. Pictures are like paintings - very beautiful bokeh, smooth tonal transitions, high microcontrast and rich colors.

To use this lens with m4/3 cameras you have to buy a c-mount-m4/3 adapter like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200376169192&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Even at $2000+ I would say that is an awesome lens. The video from that lens is outstanding!

Was that shot with the GF1 or GH1?
