You may be the first to receive a copy. Congrats! I have a pre-order for one here in the U.S. through Amazon.

I am looking forward to seeing come captures with and without VR, of course. Good shooting.

Wow!! That was fast since we just got word of it a week or two ago.

"Very nice lens. Compact en light."

From the specs it seemed like a large lens, close to the 24-70.

Cool!! Let us know how it is. I am specially curious about geometric distortion and corner performance and at landscape apertures, like f/8 or f/11.

Cheers,

I have took some snapshot only at F4 and it is sharp.
There is so bad weather for test.
Distortions is onder controle. It is not bad for 16 mm.

can you see any focal length change up to distance? can you see any irregular baffle?

According to Nikon's MTF charts...
In reply to photoforfun, Feb 19, 2010

...corner performance at 16mm seems to be rather poor, at least wide open.

Can you give your evaluation regarding this problem? Could it be due to field curvature, and so be less important on real 3 dimensional objects? Do the corners improve at f8?

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Exactly. I hope it's better than that.

Wow, that was fast. In the US, I have not even seen the NPS email go out for that lens or the 24 yet. Usually that goes out 1 to 2 weeks prior to shipment here... I'm guessing either that the Olympics has NPS all bogged down, or we're in for a longer wait here...

I really hope this new lens shines. I too was un-impressed by my sample of the 12-24 f4.

Some "early" -first impressions...
In reply to photoforfun, Feb 20, 2010

"Early" because it was 0:40AM when I arrived home...

VR seems to work fine, the underneath picture was taken handhold @ 32mm, F4, iso and 1/4 th second...

Further more:

  • When I opened the box I expected this lens to "feel" heavier, my 17-35 F2.8 was 745gramms , this one is 680gramms, but it "seems" significantly lighter,...

  • This lens seems tacksharp, even wide open

  • AF is very fast on my D700, even in low light.

  • Very well built, and a "nice" lens...

...and much more sample shots in the coming days...
