Second monitor recommendation?
Jan 14, 2010

Hi all,
I am going to add a new primary monitor to my Eizo CE240W, and need your advise.

Main tasks: both photo and video (Windows XP 64, Lightroom, Painter, CS4 Production Premium).

Requirements:

  • 24"-27"

  • 16:10 preferred

  • 90 degree pivot highly preferred

  • calibration and color stability similar to Eizo CE or (preferrably) better

  • wide gamut (NTSC or better) preferred

  • G-to_G switch time below 8ms preferred.

  • displayport would be nice.

  • price below $1500, otherwise I'd go with Eizo CG243W, of course.

I can wait if something new is coming soon. Any suggestions?
LaCie and HP owners are welcome to comment on their toys

I finally bought CG243W. Awesome.

Thought about DreamColor, but it looks like many people complain about it's color consistency, and with HP calibrator it would become more expensive than CG243W.
Add to this that it can't rotate to portrait mode.

I never heard about anybody complaining about EIZO quality, and here I am, enjoy two EIZO monitors side by side.

The only drawback: Windows ColorNavigator is terrible in supporting 2 monitors. When I start it, only one monitor gets black and can be calibrated. EIZO believes this is Windows problem. To do calibration, I have to physically disconnect one of monitors.
But after that, ColorNavigator Agent works fine with profiles for both monitors.
Did not test DisplayPort. Waiting for CS5 before I upgrade my graphics card.

Try using Argyll software for calibration

http://www.argyllcms.com/

Works with most of the colorimeters. I believe it works well with dual monitor setup. Program you are looking for is dispcal.

Their profile loader is also better than most proprietary ones.

Thanks for advise.

I have Eye-One Match 3 which is very capable and flexible, but prefer ColorNavigator now, because it stores profiles not in graphics card but in monitor itself.
