Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 are filters possible?
Nov 18, 2009

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 that I would like to explore using some different filters on the plastic doubler adapter that fits over the extending lense...I'm not sure if I am making myself clear as to what I am asking for...

When you use the doubler lense or the sunshade attachment on the camera body...I'm wondering if there are lense filters out there that would screw to the plastic threads on the plastic body...of course doing so would preclude the use of the camera lense cap on the plastic body adapter...but I'm still curious if there are filters that are the right size and have the right thread pitch to work with this setup.

if so...does anyone know what the size of the filters are that I should be looking for?...

I'm primarily looking to use a UV or polarizing filter on the camera.

Thanks in advance...

I did a search but couldn't come up with the proper search criteria to answer my question.

Thanks!
Joe.

I can and do sometimes use a UV filter on my H5.

I is 58mm and screws into the lens extension tube. the 1.7 VCL DH1758 telephoto then screws into the UV Filter.

That I just realise is why the is why the tele extender is numbered DH 1758 or Times 1.7 magnification with a 58mm thread.
Hope this makes sense.

So you have Camera + extender plastic tube + 58mm Filter + 1.7 DH 1758 tele.

Hope that helps.

As has already been said: any filters with a 58mm thread are usable on this adaptor. I have used a circular polarizer (a linear is fine, too), neutral density filters and a close-up lens (I have the 58mm Canon 250D, but the Sony one is fine, too).

Do you have the lens adaptor tube that came with the camera? It screws into the lens housing and you can attach filters, hoods and extra lenses to it. If you don't have it, it may be difficult to replace it, as Sony parts doesn't seem to have it available and the after-market companies I've known to sell them, no longer stock them. If anyone knows of a source for H5 and also H1 and H2 lens adaptors, let us know. It may be possible to temporarily fit a 52mm filter over the end of the extending lens, without an adapter, as I've done with an HX1. But, the H5 has a different and smaller lens and might need a smaller filter, if any exist that could fit it.
