Funny idea.

Will happily steal the idea and make some for my own, complete with initials
Too much money for something completely non-functional.

A hotshoe cover from an Olympus SLR works just as well!

Saw this a while ago, when I was researching the LX3 before purchase, but I also thought that 20 dollars was too much for a little piece of plastic

I got two from Richard, hoping one would fit my FZ50... While it fits perfectly in my LX3, it's way too tight a fit in the FZ hotshoe... I nearly launched it across the room getting it out of the FZ shoe... Conversely, it's a trouble-free affair slipping it in & out of the LX shoe...

That's what I am using. It's molded with plastic spring clips so it's really grabby once its inserted.

Richard has some nice stuff but I just can't see buying a hot shoe cover. I'd rather save my money and buy his cable release.

Here's a DIY hotshoe cover using black foamie scraps, LX3 and FZ30. Fits snugly and easy to insert and remove by making it a little longer than flush.

Can someone tell me why a hotshoe needs a cover?

Superfluous, vanity? Maybe?
At least that's pretty much why I think I got it...

Beside protecting contacts from dust, moisture and corrosive agents like salty air the most important function of the cover is preventing hot shoe from snagging on clothing or bags/pouches.
Well fitting cover gives the camera more finished look as well.

Cheers

Richard

I got one of Richard Franiec's LX3 hotshoe covers for my Pany L1 last year to keep dust, lint and the occasional raindrop from the contacts and runners. It fits perfectly, doesn't deactivate the built in flash and I think it really compliments the design of the camera!

I've sent Richard an email asking if he has one available for the FZ150. I would assume Panasonic would have a pretty standard hot shoe, but guess not. I tried to order from Panasonic, but they don't offer it. Another cheap oversight on their part. It should be included with the camera, IMO. Anyway, I like to keep one on my Nikon D80 and want one for the FZ150. I understand Richard uses aluminum rather than plastic.

I have one for my LX3, but it seems to have "molded" itself to the hotshoe--I can't get it out!

Well, that's not good. Before trying anything too dramatic that might scar the cover or damage the hot shoe, I'd contact the guy who designs and manufactures these things. This is unsettling news for sure. I wonder if the fact that he uses aluminum vs. plastic is what is causing the tight fit. And the fact that aluminum fitted against regular metal might be causing some kind of bonding. Just wondering out loud. I've never had problems using the standard Nikon issued HSC that comes with their cameras and they are made of plastic.

The LX3 cover I got from Richard that fits my L1 is made from a very precisely milled plastic and slides in and out very easily. It's a snug fit but it's never gotten stuck.

Liz, you should be able to find Foamies (made by Darice) in many crafty type stores or in the craft section of places like Walmart. A 9X12 2mm sheet should run less than $1.
