More about D3x
Nov 17, 2008

Hi, All.

D3x will be launched officially on the local market on december 1st, this year. 24mp, FX (of course). I just had the chance to see and play a bit with it and the camera is awesome ! The detail rendition is incredible.

Hold your breath, it will have a very interesting spec which - now - makes it clear to me why they put on hold the D3 production. I cannot say more, I just promised to the guy (see this thread: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=29934712 ) to keep my mouth shut (I managed to keep it half shut), but you will REALLY love it !

Just wait. This will be a delightful Christmas for us, Nikonians.

cheers

Hmmm.
In reply to miancu, Nov 17, 2008

I'm normally very pleased to hear about exciting new cams, because I go and buy them, but there is no possible need for me to upgrade my D3, so I was really just hoping for a higher res / lower latitude D3x I could ignore. I rather enjoy having the top dog on my side...

I really do understand you. Actually I wanted to get myself a present this Christmas, a D3. I specifically asked if D3 will be discontinued. Not because I believe in this (would be rather moronic from Nikon), just to be sure. I was told that, normally, D3 will be kept in production two more years. However, they have none in stock here, anymore. At least for this year - no more D3 here.

The D3x will be out of any of my personal budgets (but quite ok for those who need it). And a joy for some studio photographers.

Then - it's simple - don't trust me.

The post should've been more elaborated: I promised not to upload photos or reveal specs etc. And with this, I kept my promise.

Now, don't be rude and try not to show envy. It was quite a surprise for me too to see it today and I just wanted to share.

With my limited knowledge - I think that those of you who waited for a high res FF from Nikon will ABSOLUTELY won't be dissapointed.

You'll love it.

Unfortunately not as D3, however, to my eye, the 3200 D3x looks like 2500 D3.

The biggest surprise with it it is not in the noise department.

thanks

This gets into what I promised not to reveal. Sorry.

I also took some photos (BTW, the files ARE HUUUGE), but I will post them AFTER the official announcement (on nikon's site).

However, in the specs comes something that I (at least) never imaged they will put into a 24x36mm camera. Maybe I'm wrong, those of you with more experience will tell if so.

cheers

Did you mean to say this the other way around: ISO3200 on the D3 looks like ISO2500 on the D3X? In other words the D3 has the noise advantage?

Probably high frame rate at lower res, or maybe video?

One would hope the D3
In reply to smhagger, Nov 17, 2008

would have the noise advantage! Sensor technology is not going to have improved THAT much in a year.

RGB style sensor perhaps? That would make the 24 MP seem like quite a bit more in the resolution department, wouldn't it?

Video is a given
In reply to MartinCohn, Nov 17, 2008

these days, isn't it? No use to me, but I have no objection to the presence.

I hope it isn't an articulating screen - then I'd have to buy one, regardless of cost. I love the articulating screen on my E3...

Video is going to be a must be present feature or Nikon will be years behind by the time it comes to their high end camera.

I should be specific as to when I say "video," I mean "video with professional audio input."

Thanks Miancu.......not that I need one but my plan is to have two FX bodies, the D3 and a high res FX. I will however wait for this high res FX in a D700 sized body.
Can't wait to get the specs.......hopefully in a few more days.
