Nikon D90 Rumor
Jul 28, 2008

I heard a lot here and elsewhere about Nikon launching a new camera... the D90. I have googled and searched pretty much everywhere, but as yet I haven't seen anything that is official. Not even a prototype model. The only images I have seen is a faked photoshop of the D80 and a camera with an IPOD and speakers on it??? So if it was supposed to be launched on the 16th of Jun, why haven't we seen anything official from Nikon?

If anyone knows anything about ir, please let me know... it sounds like a great camera, but also sounds like a lot of hype over nothing.

Found on Amazon...
In reply to Relentless, Jul 28, 2008

I searched for the D90 on Amazon and I came up with this...

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-90s-N90s-SLR-Body/dp/B00009VQDF/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1217235898&sr=8-1

Is this really the new Nikon D90? It seems to be called N90s... Anyone?

Try searching the D80 forum, there was masses of stuff a little while ago. The last I heard was just before the launch of the D700, when I spoke to Nikon Technical about another issue and chanced asking about the D90, they claimed to have absolutely no details only rumours that it may be released in Q4. Many regular posters on the D80 forum believe that Nikon agents and sellers know no more than the rest of us.

The new camera may be D80s I guess. Then comes the D90 later. Well maybe just D90. Somethng to look forward. I am waiting to replace my D70 or or P6000. I preferred a lighter camera for traveling.

I can guess that the reason there is no info is because it there is no official launch date yet,

As far as I can see there is zero substance to any of the D90, D80x, D800 rumours. As always, time will tell.

The D80 is overdue for replacement on Nikon's usual schedule. It is probably late because of all the other camera introductions by Nikon recently. They can only do so much.

There are rumors of some new camera introductions by Nikon at the end of August just before the Fotokina expo. High on the expected list is a D90 and a high megapixel version of the D3.

I had one of those

It was a neat camera, eventually replaced by the F100.

Nikon will not spill the beans
In reply to win39, Jul 30, 2008

My father in law works at the Sendai plant. He knows I'm a pro. He knows I love his daughter to bits - heck, I married her. He knows I'm gagging for Nikon rumours. Knowing all that and knowing he knew about the D700 all along, he never told me untill the morning of the official launch date. (Same with the D3).
Even if his daughter would have asked him, he would not have spilled the beans.

It ain't official until Nikon says it is. Oh, and those leaked D700 images? They came from China. They will NOT be printing Nikon brochures ever again. Lesson learned.
Been pestering him about a high MP d3X/d4 FOR MONTHS, or even just a 'p6000'

No joy.

Nikon does not leak unless they make a mistake by trusting the wrong people. Even though my father in law KNOWS I would never tell a single soul, he stil stays quiet and smiles. Something is coming, but I have no idea what. Respect.
All I know is, the smiles are getting bigger and bigger...

Until I get a second source for all of the specifics, I'll just say that the D80 replacement is indeed to be named the D90, as I have that from multiple reliable sources.

I don't think so. Even if so, it has to cost 2,500 from the marketing point of view.

Swivel/tilt LCD for a better Live View experience?

Ken

P.S. I hope there will be a consumer level FX camera next year, D90-class body with the 12mp FX sensor, 1.5k-2k... maybe around PMA, together with the D60 replacement...

Thom

I hope that that is not 'No AF motor'.

Are you going to tell us what the 'surprise' is? I guess not, as it would not be a surprise for us when it is announced.

Regards

Paul

I really hope it's not a swivel monitor - if that's the case, I guess I'll just save some money and pick up a D60. Swivel monitors, while possibly of some use in a very specific situation, add bulk and heft to a camera and, IMO, look TERRIBLE! Something about them just cheapens the look of a DSLR and makes them look like a glorified P&S.
Please don't go this route Nikon!

I just googled “Nikon D90” and it gave me 200.000 results in an innumerable quantity of pages, al full of titles like ”D90 rumors”. I think that if you google Einstein you don't get that many results. I conclude that:

1. Nikon had better hurry up before the whole community of Nikonians goes mad (if it hasn't already happened);

2. There's an awful lot of people who would like D300 performances for less tan D300 money. After all the D80 gave us D200 performance for less money, and every new bit of software (NX2, LR2) rejuvenates its honest sensor;
3. I need live view for studio work, so again, please Nikon, hurry up.

In body VR would the only credible surprise from my point of view...

If Nikon had found a way to make lens VR and body VR work together for even better stabilitzation, this would be a total killer feature...

Besides, they cannot keep ignoring very long the lead taken by Sony in terms of body stabilization.

Cheers,
Bernard
