self focus adjust
Feb 11, 2007

Hi,

I have big news!

If your K10D have problem with focus, you can adjust it yourself.

Someone in Korea figured it out himself.

He is not a employee of Pentax or related company.

He just found out by trial-and-error with key-set.

Of course, You yourself is responsible for doing something scribed below.

Here's How-to-adjust-focus.

1. Your K10D' firmware version must be 1.10.

2. Test shot for focus trouble.

3. Turn the camera OFF.
While pressing [PLAY]+[OK], Turn the camera ON.
You can see firmware version on LCD screen.

4. Firmware version is appeared,
then press [Fn]-> [Fn]-> [INFO]-> [MENU] within 5 seconds.
You get service menu!!!

5. by pressing [right key]
,Make DEBUG MODE to DEBUG MODE .
then press [OK].
(save and LCD will be black out)

6. Press [MENU] and go to SETUP tab.
then, Press [Up key], you can see TEST MODE.

7. Select AF TEST menu. now you have AF correction menu.
If you have Front-focusing, reduce the value.
If you have back-focusing, increase the value.
after adjust some value, press [OK] and quit out of setup menu.

8. TEST for focus, find out that focus is correct.
(repeat this from 6 for correct focus.)
9. Go to service menu(step 3,4).
Make DEBUG MODE to DEBUG MODE .
then press [OK].(save and LCD black out)

10. Go out and enjoy nice photos!!!

AGAIN, You yourself is responsible for any damage or trouble by doing this process!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting that!

I'm sure there's a number K10D owners here who are likely to tinker with this. Most of them just out of curiosity

wow!!!

This is real. I just tried on my k10d. I did find the debug mode and that AF focus calibaration setting. I have not tried to ajust the value yet. I may do it after I carefully and completely confirm my frontfocus probelm.
This is amazing I have to say. Thans OP.

Mmmm..

There are a few interesting things on that menu, like being able to save the EEPROMS to your card. Potentially useful in the event of you wanting to roll back you bios (provided you backup before you update). Looks like you could also adjust the AF points if they are out.

Well, I just confirmed that this particular sequence doesn't work on a DL.

Anyone have any suggestions? Just curious if anyone has gotten to a "debug" menu on a DL.

well..you might want to be careful posting this in public forum.
I heard that pentax and affilate company in korea may sue this guy
for revealing their 'secrest' in public.

The guy deleted original post in korean pentax forum after he got threatened by pentax and its affiiate company.
I don't know if they can sue this guy for that, but thats what they say
they would do.
I am sure pentax is monitering this forum too. So, be careful...

I can't believe that this is true. This is simply a service menu or a debug mode. How can they call it a secret if it can be activated by just a few keystroke?

The service menu of my Optio, my TV and my cable TV PVR are all revealed in various forums. And people access the TV's service menu to do fine calibration. So I just can't see Pentax can sue anyone for this at all.

Business secrets, and the fact that it also allows direct access to proprietry information, it allows you to down load the entire camera firmware to a SD card, very handy for anyone wanting to reverse engineer it.

Well, the latest firmware is publicly available for download anyway.

Maybe secret to us consumers, but big players would be able to find out about this without any problems, or they could take apart the camera if there is anything they want to find out.

And the firmware is already downloadable from all the official Pentax web sites, you don't need to get it from the camera or with this service menu

did you read the steps required to get to the debug mode? There is no way that someone could get into it just by playing around. My guess is that somebody spilled some inside information.
