Canon Official Site Releases EOS-400D, EF 50mm f/1.2L USM, & EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
Aug 23, 2006

It's from the Canon China's website:
http://www.canon.com.cn/front/canon/news/backend_news_detail.jsp?id=2322

EOS-400D features:
10.1 MP (1.6X);

Anti-dust design---"Self Cleaning Sensor Unit (ultrasonic)" and "Digital Photo Professional 2.2";
9 point autofocus system;
NO spot metering;
3FPS;
Same battery pack, BG-E3 grip, Digic II as does the 350D.

Plus two new EF lenses were released: EF 50mm f/1.2L USM, and EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM.

ISO
In reply to KS Chew, Aug 23, 2006

Looks like ISO ranges from 100-1600.

First the Sony, now Canon with limiting the ISO ceiling. I guess inevitable with the APS-C sensor size... but the D80 will be the lone 10 meg entry level SLR with ISO 3200.

The big question is how much these will cost, particulary the 70-200 f4L IS.

If it's in the U$1,100 tops, I bet lots will be migrating from their non-IS version, and we'll have those non-IS at U$400 used.

The 50 f1.2L usm will probably cost a lot, another U$1,000 lens (wherebabouts). And not everybody is ga-ga over 50mm, though there are many who do want it. At least, it will

For me, there's another option on the table from the sigma 50-150 f2.8, and tokina 50-135 f2.8. Except for price, that f4 with IS is worth more to me than the loss of 1 stop.

Of course, these are all unconfrimed. but we only have less than 24 hrs to wait, so we'll know

No spot meter once again?
In reply to Sixsigma, Aug 23, 2006

This starts to be rudiculous, really - packing in semi profi AF system (if true that it is the same as with 30D), and not adding spot meter? That is just plain stupid if so ...

I am am scared about ISO not being in the viewfinder once again ...

The Canon China site has deleted all pages about new products
In reply to Sixsigma, Aug 23, 2006

No idea if they did the earlier release deliberately or was is an "accident"---one day before the the "official" announcement.

Don't worry. 40D will have better autofocus than 9 point system, that what I called a semi-Pro system. 9 point system was a bit stetch to be called semi-Pro.

I don't think it is accidental. Canon does it all the time.

I saved a copy of the anouncement. I used print and save as PDF on a Mac. Just in case if I need to read it again.
