People sometimes see what they want to see when comparing or analyzing photos. I'd thought it might be fun to try something different. I made several crops of the IR comparison photos. The crops are arranged in a 2 x 2 grid. However, the name of the camera has been replaced with a letter (A, B, C, D). The letters were randomly assigned to each camera, and the assignment changed with each comparison. For example, the D60 crop might be "A" in the first comparison, "D" in the second and "C" in the third. (Or it might not!)
Because of the difference in sensor sizes, I first cropped each original so that the field of view was almost identical. I then scaled each photo up or down using Photoshop's bicubic interpolation to either 2400 x 3000 or 1500 x 2100 (8 x 10 and 5 x 7 photos at 300 ppi). Therefore, each photo was resized and no camera was at an advantage.
My challenge to everyone is to try and identify which crop belongs to which camera in each comparison. I would also be interested in knowing which crop you think looks better and why?
