I know this is a very old issue, but some stroke of luck I found a

I for one am please you took the time to make this post Johann

I have had my S602z for quite some time now and was getting ready
to look at a suitable alternative, as I was getting real tired of
always wondering just how much oomph was left.

It has become a way of life for me over the last year and a half. I decided to live with it rather than return the cam under warranty and be without it for many weeks.

It just so happened that most of the work I do required me to set
the camera to manual focus, and in addition I changed the preview
setting to "off". After shooting I left the camera in that state
and did not use it again for 3 weeks. The next time I turned it on,
I discovered much to my surprise, that the batteries were not flat,
as was usually the case after about 5 days. I have tested again and
again, and reverting to the Auto focus "on" and preview "on"( in
preview or post view ), every time causes the excessive drain on the
battery.

Now this is very interesting and since I have tried all the other quick fixes I will give this a try and let you know in a couple of weeks if it also solves the problem of battery drain for me .

My Fuji's life has just been extended, as I am satisfied with
everything else it offers.

Me 2
cheers Paul.
BTW- thanks John for your input and starting this thread.

With freshly charged NiMH cells in the camera I can take photos all
day (although I have never taken more than 200 on one day). I
never had them go flat on me. However, if I put fresh cells in the
camera but didn't use it for 5-10 days, I'd be lucky to get 6
photos before the camera shut down. One of the 4 cells was always
flat - the others OK.
