PULLING my HAIR OUT

I've used an Epson 1270 for years, but recently added a 2200. Now I'm trying to print an image on enhanced matte paper, and things are going to pot.

1) First two attempts on matte yielded totally washed out images (second image was after I changed the settings per computer-darkroom.com).

2) I browsed this forum, went to a few other places, and replaced the photo black cartridge with a matte black cartridge.

3) Now the computer won't print at all.

Sure, it'll print a one-word "test" document from Microsoft Word, but that's it.

I'm running OS X (10.2.8) on a brand new PowerBook G4 running at 1.25Ghz with 1G of RAM.
