It sounds like this may be your first Canon digital camera. I suggest you start with JPG format and learn about the specific camera that you purchase. Explore and learn about exposure, WB and other settings before you start processing RAW files. RAW has some advantages for some conditions and some folks, but it is better to understand what they are, why and if they will be important to your shooting style by first understanding the cameras strengths and limitations.
