I'm not sure if this is the answer to what you require but the cable that came with my Canon which is used for transferring the pictures is also used to do this very thing. You can plug the camera in to the lap top or any computer for that matter, the EOS Utility window pops up and you click on click on Camera settings/remote shooting, Another window pops up giving you various options including 'live view' mode using the monitor,

This is handy for shooting with a nervous model. a bride or groom say, With the camera on a tripod you can walk around and talk to the model while shooting and watching the monitor. this can help to alleviate any nerves.
