S2- A thief magnet?

S2- A thief magnet?

I have two questions really but the first relates to theft risk.

My wife & I are going to be touring Germany, Austria & Switzerland for 3 weeks in September...(I've never been to Europe before & we are really looking forward to this...)

I have been told that having a Biggish SLR & kit is not advisable as I will be a target for thieves.

I would dearly love to be taking images with my S2 rather than something less worthy of the rich subject matter but I would hate to be in Europe without anything because I was too obvious a mark. I sold my Nikon 5700 to get the FUji but should I consider getting a smaller camera again & leave my S2 at home?

What do you think?
