I'm a geologist, and I use the S100 for a field camera, so the GPS function is very handy.  It generally works OK - once it links up in the AM, it generally finds the satellites pretty quickly throughout the day.  One quirk that I have found is that if you upload images from your camera to your computer with any thing other than Canon's software (particularly Apple's iPhoto), the GPS data does not up load, so if you are having problems there, do the transfer with the Canon CameraWindow app.  Once the images are on-board your computer, the GPS data shows up with any other software I've used.
