After being on DPREVIEW for years, I'm not sure any Nikon DSLR doesn't have the rubber come loose for someone.

I'd never had it happen to me, until recently.   I keep almost all of my cameras (only sold 2, ever, a Canon AE-1p in 1993, and my D70s in 2008).

My D200 had been sitting unused on a shelf in my closet for a year or so.  I was moving things around, picked it up, and I discovered the rubber coming off big time on the grip.    Seemed fine for the years I used it, in many places and climates.   That camera was purchased new in Feb 2007.

My D300 (Nov. 2007) is fine, as is my D700, D800e and D810.   So far.

4 months (original post from quite a while ago) - that's too soon.   That would definitely be a warranty claim in my opinion.   A few years?  I'd consider that normal wear and tear, along with 'luck of the draw'.

There are plenty of online resources out there showing how to replace the rubber yourself.
