For the the AF button to change the focus point selection, the AF mode switch on the front of the camera needs to be in the AF-S position.

Also, although this isn't a problem you're now having, don't count on using the AF button to change the AF shooting mode, it only allows you to move the Focus Frame when the AF shooting mode is set to AREA and the focus mode switch on the front of the camera is set to AF-S.

If the AF shooting mode is set to MULTI or TRACKING, the AF button doesn't do anything. To change the AF shooting mode you have to go to page 3 of the Shooting Menu and select AF MODE. Fuji realized their folly and with the X20, the AF button's function changed to allow the user to select Still shooting mode or one of several Continuous shooting modes. This is explained on pages 46, 48 and 86 of the X10's manual.
