The Patient Hunter (FZ200)

I found two female Argiope aurantia (garden spiders) on my property this week. Whenever I pass by I have been swinging by to see if they have caught anything. All photos are fz200 on macro mode, no flash, no macro lenses; resized for quicker upload.

A recent enough capture that the spider was still in the process of wrapping up (a wasp)? The garden spider will eat the insect 1-4hrs after capture. Notice the stabilmentum (the web pattern in the middle) which has an unknown function but might be to keep birds from running into the web and breaking it.

A different angle, notice the red near the "tail" which is the spinneret which creates the silk for the web.
