Do UHS-II cards only matter for buffering?

In anticipation of my new X-T1, I'm trying to decide between Sandisk 95 MB/s vs. 280 MB/s cards.  All of the tests/reviews that I've read online seem to affect only buffering.  Even with my D700, I never came close to filling up the buffer, I just don't shoot long bursts continuously.  I would be willing to pay for the more expensive/faster card if it would all me to minimize the time between shots, which is something that sounds like is one of the differences between my full frame camera and this new mirrorless bunch, that there is a lag between how quickly you can take the next shot.  I do shoot like that, in an attempt to catch multiple expressions.  So in single shot mode, with my D700, I might shoot a bunch of single shots in a row, maybe about 1 second-ish apart.  Would a faster card help the X-T1 feel more like my D700?
