Lightweight camera for bad back

Hi all,

I have been a keen photographer for a number of years, nothing pro but done the odd wedding and occasionally taken the odd ace pic by accident or design.

I have had a slipped disc which has worsened recently, making lugging my Canon 40d and the various lenses pretty hard work. My camera knowledge outside of Canon dslrs is minimal, but I now need to think about getting a far lighter camera that won't cripple me every time I take it out and about.

Could anyone possibly make some new camera suggestions please? I'll not be likely to do any more weddings as its too painful (!) but I would love a much lighter camera with a wide apertured fixed lens. Do you even get prime lenses on small cameras?! I have a budget of £500-£700 or so.

Many thanks.
