It might be useful to distinguish between the photographs and the photographer.  As a photographer you know what you need to get good photographs, which makes you a good photographer.  Once you get everything you need to get the pictures you want you know how to use it in order to get the best photographs possible, which also makes you a good photographer.  As a good photographer with the ability to compose well and using equipment that will make for the best photographs, your output is the best that one can produce considering the subject.

So equipment doesn't change your ability to optimize equipment to produce pleasing results, it only allows for your photographic ability to reach its fullest potential.
