Is it time to upgrade or add to my aging Rebel XT?
Aug 21, 2014

I have an old Canon 350D / Rebel XT with 3 lenses, some pre-dating digital: The EF 100-300 4.5-5.6 USI, the EF 28-105 3.5-4.5 USI, and the kit EF-S 18-55 3.5-5.6.

After a few years off from far-away travel due to new twins, we're heading back to Asia and I want to review my camera gear.

My first reflex was to replace the XT. I was thinking of:

1. The Canon 100D / SL1 for the size & weight advantages, leverage existing lenses.

2. The Canon 70D for capabilities / quality with a big loss of weight advantage

3. A Sony a6000 for mirrorless with the kit lens plus the 55-210.

Another option is to just keep DSLR shooting with the XT and get a Sony RX100 III.

Photos are the priority although quality video is certainly a new feature that would be nice (are remove the need to use my Vixia HF100).

I would really appreciate your thoughts / suggestions or other completely different ideas.
