EVF and AEL lock

Hi, there are some questions in my head for a while.

With the Electric view finder introduced on modern alpha cameras, I felt there are few legacy functions lost it's usefulness.

For example, if we can see the shot result from our electrical view finder live, we can scroll the front/rear dial & adjust aperture/shutter/exposure compensation right away to deal with auto exposure mistake, do we need AEL lock function any more?

Same as the metering mode...do we need 3 metering methods if we can see our photo being over or under expose in extreme situation? (ok this is more arguable as using spot metering make it quicker, just point and shoot).

I had a few other examples but can't recall now... maybe someone else can come up with another one?
