Is the SEL50F18 a good by now, even with owning the SEL35F18?

We have been using our NEX6 now since Mother’s Day and love it. We have the 35, 20, 18-55, and 55-110. We use the 35 95% of the time. I see that the 50 has currently dropped across the board by $50 and I am thinking about picking it up. We have started to do more and more portrait shots (we are complete armatures, but are learning all the time) and I keep reading that the 50 is great for portraits. I only hesitate because I am wondering if there is a new lens on the horizon. I see it has been a while since anything has been released, and being new to photography, I am not sure how often lenses are released.

The 35 will probably still be our everyday lens, and we would make the 50 our portrait lens. Does anyone else have both? If so, do you actually use both? I have also been contemplating that maybe the 35 is sufficient on its own, making the 50 unnecessary.

Thanks for any tips or suggestions.
