Is my NEX camera + lens up for Northern Light photography
2 months ago

I'm Interested in Northern Light photography and just purchased the book of Andy Long.

I Read that for best results you need a fairly fast wide angle lens (wider better), around F/2.8 and/or a camerabody with good low light performance (ISO 1600-3200).

I currently have a Sony NEX 6 (APS-C) camera and Sony SEL 10-18 F/4 lens. Will this combo be any good for Northern Light photography? Does anyone have examples of the Northern Light taken with this combo?

I'm aware that the Samyang 12 F/2.0 will likely make a very nice "northern light lens"... but I just got the SEL1018 and will not be experiencing the Northern light that often (only during hiking trips in Scandinavia about once a year) so can't justify a dedicated lens for that.
