Sony A6000 - can you turn off both the EVF/LCD while doing timelapse?

For anyone who owns the A6000, do you know if you turn off the LCD screen, when you are doing timelapse or remote triggering of images via infrared intervalometer, does the electronic view finder turn off as well (when your face is not near and your not looking into it)?

Does this save any battery life (i.e. allow for more shots to be taken)
