I agree, if the original image was taken with good tecniques, ie: tripod or monopod if the SS drops, good focussing, lots of DOF (if that is what you want) then it is amazing what can be done. I have a 16 x 24 print on my wall of a photo that was taken with a lowly 6mpa (by today's standards) D100 yet it is very sharp, has won a couple of awards, and overall IMO makes a very nice print.

Remember, it's not the CPU that's in your camera that makes great images, it's the one located about 4" behind the viewfinder that does.
