First waffle - D800 / Tamron 150-600mm heron

Walked the trail around a nearby lake carrying this combo with a Manfrotto steel tripod. I appreciate my V3 and 70-300mm combo even more after that hike! I think I'm going to hire a Sherpa for my next time out.

The camera in program mode was trying to use lots of shutter speed and high ISO so this is one of the rare times I shot full manual other than moon shots. I found I could shoot 600mm using 160th/f7 ISO 200 with mirror up on the tripod. I know D800 is supposed to be good for high ISO but I can see the difference when tight cropping. For the price and weight this is a great lens, although I am keenly aware the Nikon 600mm would produce noticeably better results.
