What happens to the photos captured by my lens?

Do all the photos that enter the lens hit the sensor?

Where do the photos go after they hit the sensor? What about the photos that don't hit the sensor?

How many photos should hit the sensor to make a well-exposed photo at ISO 100, f/8, 1/400? How does this change if the ISO is set at ISO 3200?

Is it one photon per pixel I see on the JPEG image? two photons? ten? a hundred? a thousand? a million?

If I were a photon hitting the sensor, what would I experience?
