Old 24mm 2.8 AF still has life

After not using it in over 10 years, I pulled out an old 24mm 2.8 AF (non D) lens out of a bag that I purchased in the late 80s. I thought to myself that this lens doesn't "have a chance" on my D600. I was happily surprised.

I have a 16-35 F4 and the 24-85 kit lens that would normally cover the 24mm length. I compared shots from both the 24-85 and the 24 prime. Results? Not too shabby! Given the size and weight of this little prime, I believe I have rediscovered an old friend.

I post this because I have heard little good about the old 24 2.8 primes on modern DSLR cameras. Most sight soft, low contrast, etc. Maybe I have a "good copy" of this lens, but it is actually sharper with excellent color rendition than my modern 24-85 at all tested f stops.

Anyone else happily using this lens on modern equipment?
