Camera or lens reporting inconsistent/incorrect focal length
I am using a D40 with an 18-200 mm f3.5/5.6 AF-S ED VR II zoom lens. From time to time, I find that with the same focal length settings, the metadata for the resulting photos show wildly varying focal lengths. It's easiest to detect in a series of similar shots. For example, four successive shots in a pan registered 22, 105, 105 and 22 mm. Like many problems, this one is intermittent so it's hard to reproduce, and I don't usually notice it until I get home and look at the photos. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it the camera, or the lens, or some kind of bad connection?
