Nikon 18-200mm MTF charts confusion

Hi!

I have 18-200mm more or less only for nostalgic reasons. On D40 it used to be quite good lens, on D7100 it was rather soft (and slow). The overall performance seems for me like described in the dxomark tests:

http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Nikon/AF-S-DX-VR-Zoom-nikkor-18-200-f-3.5-5.6G-IF-ED-mounted-on-Nikon-D7100---Measurements__865

Sharpness at 18mm f/3.5

But Nikons provides MTF charts for the lens, in which it looks like the lens outperforms many professional-grade lenses, just like miracle lens:

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/lens/zoom/normalzoom/af-s_dx_18-200mmf_35-56g_ed_vr2/

MTF Chart - Wide

MTF Chart - Tele

Is there something I don't understand? Do I read the MTF charts in a wrong way?

Thanks

p.s.: Please note 18-200 VR I and VR II have both the same optics, they differ only in the zoom lock switch.
