The height of the pack from its top to its base is slightly different than "torso height", which corresponds to the distance between the shoulder strap insertion to the pack frame and the belt attachment to the pack frame. The idea is that 90%+ of the weight of the pack should rest on the hips, and the shoulder straps should function mostly to keep the pack close to the back.

The more weight is put in the pack, the better fit is required for comfort over longer-term wear.
