Noise reduction, sharpening and demosaicing

Recently I set my camera''s (FZ200) JPEG to the lowest level of noise reduction and sharpening. My assumption has been that my camera first demosaics the RAW; then does noise reduction and finally sharpening.  I figured I can do noise reduction and sharpening better on my PC using my photo software.

A fellow photoist mentioned to me that he thought that in-camera noise reduction and sharpening are built into the demosaicing process and not separate sequential processes.  That being the case, if I set noise reduction and sharpening to the lowest level, I won't get as good results by sequentially apply these processes in software because the demosaicing algorithm is no longer optimal for a reduced noise and sharpened image.  I can't get back fully what I told the demosaicing algorithm to do.

Is this correct?
