Lightest, Wide-Range, High-Quality [Zoom] Lenses for D810/800/E?

Hi All,

In your opinions, which lenses are the lightest, brightest, high-quality ZOOM lenses for the D810? In this consideration, light-weight/compactness is most heavily weighted; but ability to take advantage of the D810's resolution is a close second. Usefulness of range (zoom) is the third factor. Price is the least consideration.

In this sense:

- The 70-200/2.8 II is not really acceptable (size/weight/range disqualify, excellent optics).

- The 14-24 is not really acceptable (size/weight/range disqualify, excellent optics).

- The 24-70 is almost acceptable (size/weight disqualify, excellent optics).

- The 16-35 VR is almost acceptable (size/weight disqualify, good optics).

- The 24-120/4 VR & 28-300 VR are OK (optical/weight issues, good range).

- The 70-300 VR is GOOD (good optical, good weight, good range).

- The 18-35 VR is GOOD (good optical, good weight, good range).

......... Any others you would add?

- How is the new 24-85 VR II?

Obviously, prime lenses are optimal, but not always convenient. But the zooms must be zooms that can resolve the D810/D800/E. This thread being about zooms of moderate/light weight w/better than average optical quality.  The range I am considering is theoretically from 14-600, but, practically, 18-300, for heavy travel.  In practice, 1 or 2 primes matched with 1 or 2 zooms works very well.  So that's why I'm looking at zooms.

Are there some hidden gems I've missed?

GlobalGuy
