Stats for first half - only mirrorless are growing
2 months ago

New data on camera sales for Jun'14 is in.

Some people try to make something out of month to month changes (May to June, for example), which does not make ANY sense because of seasonal factors and product release cycles - one month is too short a time to derive any camera sales from.

But 6 moths, compared to the same 6 months of previous years, takes care of both problems, as in 6 months there are statistically significant number of new releases in any category.

OK, to the numbers (worldwide shipments):

1) Cameras with built-in lenses

Jan-Jun'12: 42,640,423

Jan-Jun'13: 22,157,211 : -48% (YoY)

Jan-Jun'14: 13,505,144 : -39% (YoY)

2) DSLRs

Jan-Jun'12: 7,652,211

Jan-Jun'13: 6,263,002 : -18.2% (YoY)

Jan-Jun'14: 4,904,435 : -22% (YoY)

3) Mirrorless

Jan-Jun'12: 1,623,629

Jan-Jun'13: 1,322,622 : -18.5% (YoY)

Jan-Jun'14: 1,491,613 : +13% (YoY)

1) fall in cameras with built-in lenses slows down a little but still the worst

2) fall in DSLR speeds up

3) mirrorless are growing again

It is CIPA numbers, so cameras from Samsung, Kodak, GoPro etc are not there.
