Rain proof bags?
Aug 4, 2014

I'm not talking completely waterproof as that is something separate.  I'm asking about bags and/or brands of bags that are known to fare very well during light rain or an unexpected downpour.

Assuming a bag does not come with a rain cover, are certain brands known for doing well on their own?  What, if anything, can I do to improve my chances of not getting a camera wet if I'm using a bag that does not include a rain cover?  I ask because it's a bit of a pain to only shop for bags that come with dedicated rain covers.  They are either too bulky, are truly awful to look at, etc.

Also, what features should I look for to increase protection?  I'm mostly looking at slings and shoulder bags/messenger bags.

How do Domke bags fare in the rain?  I'm open to all brands but I do have one of these but haven't put it to the test.

I'm asking mostly for work days.  I have a regular, non photography job and take public transportation so, when I leave the house, that's it.  If I get caught in the rain, I'd like to not wish I took another bag that day.

This question has not been answered yet.
