Doss, I do think that DOF has not helped the photo, as it is obviously not in focus.  BUT I have to admit I did not examine it as closely as others.  There isn't much if any of it in focus.  Thus I have to agree with your later post, that the lens may be faulty.  Your photo examples definitely demonstrate that point

As you said, though, any user error needs to be ruled out.  Sometimes I have to double-check some of my settings when things don't look right, and often something got bumped away from where it should be!
