DOF Scale on Lens - Necessary??

Hello,

I have been playing around with Aperture and subsequently DOF on my new equipment.   Since my Equipment does not have a DOF scale on Lens or setting on Camera, I must set at Hyperfocal Distance to maximise depth of field using manual focus.  No big deal.

So mentally, I put a check in the back of my mind for my next lens to have DOF scale.   This seems like it would make things easier.

While not completely ready to get another lens, I started looking at some Larger Aperture Prime Lens for my Nikon D5300.   I think this will be a nice complement in the future and give me more flexibility when shooting inside on my trips since I will not always be carrying my tripod.

However, I notice that most of the DX Primes at the focal length of my desire do not have DOF scale.   I have found that using the App on my phone is good for calculating HF, but focus can be a problem if there is not something at the HF distance.

So am I asking for too much from equipment?  Is it easier to focus at HF distance with practice?  Do others see the need for DOF scale on lens?

Thanks
