Lightroom 5.6 quick test of Jpeg vs NEF

This is shot using the built in flash in simultaneous NEF and JPG fine and cropped. First with no processing, JPG

No processing, NEF

JPG with shadows +100, Highlights -100

NEF, same settings of Shadows +100, Highlights -100

To me, the NEF allows more recovery of both highlights and shadows. The shadows show a bit of noise in the NEF after recovery, and Noise Reduction about 10 removes that.

The JPG is very good, and at first glance more pleasing, but there is clearly a lot more room for recovery in the NEF.

This is with RAW 12 bit compressed, file size 34,384kb, and JPG fine file size 25,244 kb.
