Canon 15-85mm - more vignetting on one side?

I just bought a used Canon 15-85mm, but noticed I'm getting more vignetting on just the left side of my images. I tried taking the pictures in different orientations, and it would always be to the left of the camera. I turned on live view, unmounted the lens and rotated it in the mount - still, left side. Finally I lifted the lens a bit off the mount and tilted it a hair to the left - and the problem went away.

What's going on here? Did I get a bad copy? Decentering? It is just expected variance, or is it too far off to be usable? I'm hesitant send it back since it was able to get it for $415 at an auction, and I know that it's hard to find a lens that'll fit a specific body perfectly.
