General purpose FX lens questions (35mm vs 50mm)

I have a 70-200mm, which is heavy but covers my telephoto needs quite nicely. I also have a 14mm prime, which quenches my extreme wide angle impulses.

For general purpose, I use 50mm f/1.8, which is light and is very good... except it is a bit too long especially when I want to take shots of group of people indoors. So, I am thinking about 35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 or 28mm f/1.8, and selling the 50mm.

Question #1: were you in the same/similar situation as me? if so, what is your suggestion?

Question #2: looking at 35mm shots, they look better suited(than 50mm) for general photography (walkaround, indoors, people groups, street, etc). Do you agree or disagree?

Please assume that cost is not a factor. Also assume that I want subject separation, so f/2 or less is a must at these smaller lengths.
