35mm for most of thr 80's was simply a low quality amateur format for weddings.

Only if you show us with your 'pro' MF photos not mouth to make 35mm FF as 'amateur' tool?

In the 1980s, we didn't refer to 35mm as FF.

But it was the tool of amateurs and wannabes.

Really including Nikon F4-series cameras - F4, F4s and F4e (1988-89) and Canon EOS-1 (1989)? Let's wait to see DL's 'pro-level' photos from his whatever tool

Yup, including those.

Please note that this thread has morphed into wedding photography. The high end Nikons and Canons were just as restricted by format as were Pentax K1000s.

What the high end Nikons and Canons were very good for, in regard to weddings, was making the photographer into a nuisance. These were not quiet cameras. Having a photographer firing off one of these things at a wedding ceremony was a definite mood killer, and tended to pull attention from the ceremony to the photographer (bad photographer).

They were very good machines, but for weddings, they were not the best choice in the 35mm world.

Oh, I only speak from IQ perspective. I am sure MF has better IQ but FF cameras are much smaller and lighter with better line-up of lens choice with good enough IQ. The same true today between digital MF and FF cameras and the gap is narrowing with even more lens’ choice in FF camp and the rumored 54mp FF sensor is coming for those want to print big size.
