Which lens did you purchase in the end?

I struggled with the same dilemma, either the 12-32 or the 14-42 II. I went with the 14-42II for several reasons:

Panasonic 14-42 II

+ less distortion at wide angle

+ higher MTF resolution

+ better build quality

+ manual focus ring

+ 100 EUR cheaper

The only advantage the 12-32 has is the 12mm wide but it's not enough for me to overlook all the advantages of the 14-42 II listed above. Also, the 12-32 when shooting is not any smaller than the 14-42 II.

You can't go wrong with either but it's hard to overlook the price and benefits the 14-42 II brings.

Check photozone.de and ephotozine for reviews and comparisons.

From his gear list, it looks like he got his 14-42 (II).

If I could be apart of this, I would probably get the 12-32mm. It's more compact and the 12mm is very valuable. There are many more 14mm around.

I have to admit I have gone the same way -- although my 12-32 is backed up by the 12-35 for pro work and when I need aperture.

A great alternative, though, would be the Olympus 14-42 II R plus the lightweight, pocketable, and fast fitting WCON-P01 wide angle adapter which would give you an f3.5 11mm bottom end to the zoom. Sure it has some barrel distortion but it is a regular wave and correctable in a moment in any half decent image processing app (I use PhotoLine which is fully decent at a cost of only $100).

(Panny has a similar auxiliary lens for its standard zoom but, at least in Australia, it is grossly over-priced.)

That way, you could have the best of both worlds.

Cheers, geoff
