DXO lens tests vs M43 lenses
Jul 29, 2014

A long-time SLR user I got fed up with carrying huge bags of FF lenses and went over to point-and-shoot.

Now I should like to get back to a decent camera and have been looking at the CSCs - particularly Olympus OM-D which seem to have all the features I could wish for (and more!) in a very small and light package.

Checking out the Olympus M43 lenses on DXO came as a bit of a shock - none of the affordable zooms (and even some of the primes) test at all well for sharpness (I'm looking under Measurements/Sharpness/Field Map). Some of them get barely any green at any focal length or aperture.

Sony E lenses seem to do quite a bit better for sharpness, but with similar overall scores. All but the very cheapest traditional dSLR do MUCH better than either.

Is there something about the way that DXO tests which works against M43 lenses?

I can't believe that M43 users have really low expectations of their lenses, so what is going on?

This question has not been answered yet.
