Airshow Shooting Tips

Ok you experts. I'm heading to the EAA airshow in Oshkosh next week and hoping to improve upon last years effort.  Couple things I learned last year from the forum is that I need to slow down my shutter speed for prop planes.  So what's the recommended shutter speed?  I'll be taking the following:

  • K5II
  • Pentax 55 - 300 DA L
  • Pentax 18 - 135 DA WR
  • Sigma 50mm
  • Sigma 10 - 20

I figure the 55 - 300 will primarily be used during the actual flight demonstrations and the 18 - 135 as a walk around.  The other two for early morning shots when nobody is up.  The Thunderbirds are going to be there so I'm hoping to get a nice sunrise picture with the planes.

Thoughts, tips, suggestions on shutter speed and focus tracking?  I'm assuming spot is not recommended?

Thanks,

Scott
