Well, if you have a SD14 that doesn't lock up, I'd look after it very well! And it's nothing to do with user error, a lot of these cameras are inherently buggy, I've used and owned a lot of cameras and never had these issues with any other.

The need for responsiveness depends on shooting style and my way of setting exposure is to let the camera do its thing then review the hsitogram and re-shoot if necessary. That means for an enjoyable shooting experience, I need to be able to check the review histogram instantly.  The 5D for example, will display the review image less than 1 sec after pressing the shutter release while the SD14 gives you time to boil the kettle whilst the red light blinks. Maybe you don't care but I do.

And I have thousands of files that say the image quality of the 5D is at least as good and is usually better but that's subjective I guess.
