the Nikon 800 sensor means the pixel density is around crop sensor density, so in my mind negates many of the advantages of going full frame. Nikon is going after a niche market and wanting to attract gear heads rather than photographers I think.

In what way does the Nikon D800's pixel density "negate many of the advantages of going full frame?" What advantages does it negate?

Fact is, the Nikon D800's Exmor sensor manages to provide similar high ISO performance to Canon's full frame sensors, while at the same time providing both substantially higher resolution and substantially greater dynamic range.
